Naval Academy Band To Play Birthday Concert

Celebrating the Navy's 242nd birthday, the Naval Academy band will play a special concert on Thursday.

ANNAPOLIS, MD — Anchors aweigh! The U.S. Navy is about to celebrate its 242nd birthday on Friday, Oct. 13, and the Naval Academy's Brass Ensemble is ready to entertain.

The show is on Thursday, Oct. 12, at 7:30 p.m. at the U.S. Naval Academy's Main Chapel. If you're walking, gate three at Maryland Avenue will be open until 9:30 p.m. that night. The chapel is at 121 Black Rd.

If you want to take the shuttle, it will pick up concert-goers on the west side of the Navy-Marine Corps Stadium by the Blue Angel plane. The shuttle starts running at 6:30 p.m. and ends at 9:30 p.m.

The Naval Academy Band's Facebook page posted the event, noting that Lt. Cmdr. Diane Nichols will conduct the band, who will play works by Percy Grainger, George Gershwin, Anthony DiLorenzo and John Philip Sousa.
