MARYLAND — A graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy will spend the next six months aboard the International Space Station after Commander Kayla Barron launched into space this week.

For Barron, a former submarine warfare officer, the adventure is a change in perspective after she told the Navy Office Of Community Outreach that while the view from above is different than the one from below, engineering remains the same.

"I was just hit with this realization that the space station is a submarine in space,” Barron said in the interview.
