One of the state's marquee congressional races is a battle for the 6th District between incumbent April McClain Delaney and challenger David Trone, who previously held the seat and is trying to make a comeback. McClain Delaney won the seat in 2024 after Trone left to run for Senate.
The other race generating substantial attention is the open-seat contest created by Rep. Steny Hoyer's retirement after more than four decades in Congress. Open seats are rare in Maryland, and Hoyer's departure has produced a crowded Democratic primary in a safely blue district.
While not considered one of the nation's top battlegrounds, Maryland's 1st Congressional District also remains politically significant because it is the state's only Republican-held U.S. House seat and Rep. Andy Harris is one of the most prominent conservative voices in Congress as chairman of the House Freedom Caucus.
Other contested races in Tuesday's primary include congressional seats in Maryland's 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 7th districts.
Results for all primary races are available on the Maryland Department of Elections website.
