New Coffee Shop To Open In Annapolis Amid City Dock Troubles

ANNAPOLIS, MD — A longtime ice creamery in Annapolis will open a new coffee shop this month to counteract the financial impacts of the ongoing City Dock construction.

Sveinn Storm, owner of the Storm Brothers Ice Cream Factory, announced the new "Storm's a Brewing" business would be complete with breakfast and pastry options.

A current timeline puts the new shop opening sometime between Sept. 21 and Sept. 25.

"We believe it will work well and are extremely excited to have several former Bitty & Beau’s employees helping us with our endeavor," Storm said in a Facebook post. "We hope you will support us. Hopefully, it will be enough."

Storm told CBS Baltimore that the store's sales were down between $160,000 and $180,000 when compared against 2025 figures.

Officials are hoping the move will help encourage more foot traffic to the area.

The ice creamery's effort comes as several stores in the downtown area have been forced to close due to the latest City Dock construction. Some of those stores include the Annapolis Marine Art Gallery and Bitty & Beau's Coffee.

City officials say the ongoing project is intended to prevent flooding in the area. However, for many businesses, it's caused endless financial headaches and has led to dealing with even more flooding.

The multimillion-dollar construction project was announced in 2025, and its second phase isn't expected to get underway until May 2027.
