Next School Calendar Factors in Weather Closings
If Anne Arundel County Public Schools miss an extended number of days because of weather in 2015-16, spring break will be shorter.

From the AACPS Communications Office:
The 2015-2016 school calendar should receive formal approval at the Nov. 5 meeting of the Anne Arundel County Board of Education, and members are expected to tentatively approve a calendar for the 2016-2017 school year.
Next year’s school calendar includes new guidelines for an extended number of weather closings, which would eat into spring break.

The draft 2015-2016 calendar approved by the school system Calendar Committee – a group that consists of AACPS employees, students, and representatives of employee bargaining units and parent groups – builds in five days for inclement weather closings with the following stipulations:
- The days would be subtracted from the end of the school year if not needed for emergency closings.
- If more than between six and nine makeup days are needed, they will be taken from Easter/spring break in the order listed in the calendar.
- The draft calendar also maintains the traditional Thanksgiving and Christmas/Winter breaks.
The board is also scheduled to give tentative approval to a 2016-2017 school year calendar to allow parents and employees to begin to plan for vacations and other travel more than a year in advance.
