ANNAPOLIS, MD — An Anne Arundel County police officer shot a suspect three times in the legs Sunday afternoon after the man lunged at the police officer with a knife, according to a police report. The shooting occurred in the 1000 block of Lakeview Lane after the police department received a report of a man possibly armed with a gun.

An officer confronted the suspect, who was leaning against a vehicle. The suspect then raised a butterfly knife at the officer and lunged at him, authorities said. The officer began to back up as the suspect charged at him. The officer fired several rounds and struck the suspect in the legs.

At that time, the suspect complied with the officer's commands and officers who arrived on the scene next were able to handcuff the suspect and render medical aid. Detectives recovered the butterfly knife at the scene, along with an ASP baton the suspect had with him.
