Feast on oysters at this Shady Side festival. Explore Hispanic heritage at cultural and environmental events in Bladensburg and Annapolis.

MARYLAND — An oyster festival is coming to Shady Side. Hispanic cultural and environmental events are slated in Bladensburg and Annapolis.
Moreover, a small boat celebration is planned in St. Michaels. A Baltimore Oktoberfest rounds out the upcoming offerings.

"Captain Avery Oyster Festival
Come and enjoy the 24th annual oyster fest tradition at the Captain Avery Museum. The grounds and museum will be turned into a waterside extravaganza, with a string band with sweet vocals, classic rock band with blues guitar, and the Oyster Boys, who love to share their music and stories of life on the Chesapeake Bay. And, of course, there will be bushels of fresh Bay oysters – raw, with sauce, or in a shooter, as well as other seafood and festival grub, bake sale and beverages, plus crafts and pirate selfies for the kids. "Festival del Rio Anacostia
The annual and bilingual environmental celebration of the Anacostia River is back! There will be fun activities for the whole family. "Hispanic Heritage Festival

"Mid-Atlantic Small Craft Festival
Once again, for the 38th time, the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum is hosting one of the nation’s largest gatherings of small boat enthusiasts and unique watercraft. Marvel at the craftsmanship and innovation used in traditional and contemporary small craft while enjoying CBMM’s waterfront campus and indoor and outdoor exhibitions. Hundreds of amateur and professional boatbuilders and enthusiasts come from all over the region to display their one-of-a-kind kayaks, canoes, and other traditional small craft. Instructors will be on hand to offer boatbuilding demonstrations and on Saturday watch the Miles River small craft boat race. Entrance to the Mid-Atlantic Small Craft Festival is included with general museum admission. Oct. 1-3, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm; Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum, St. Michaels, MD. More information."
"Food Truck Oktoberfest
The B&O Railroad Museum is throwing a party – an Oktoberfest to be exact – and the public is invited to join in. They're bringing together amazing local food trucks to present a day of food, live music, drink, and fall fun for the whole family. Fun food offerings include Haitian fare, potatoes topped with crab, fried oreos and funnel cakes. Oct. 2, 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm; B&O Railroad Museum, Baltimore. Tickets and list of vendors."
