Police Arrest Man With 9 Open Warrants Who Repeatedly Evaded Officers

A joint police operation Friday ended with the arrest of Koby Murray, an Annapolis man who had repeatedly evaded police.

ANNE ARUNDEL CO., MD — Koby Murray, an Annapolis man with nine open warrants and a history of evading police, was taken into custody Friday.

He was arrested at approximately 12:30 p.m. in a wooded area between Cypress Road and Ben's Drive, the Anne Arundel County Sheriff's Office said in a release.

Murray was wanted on charges that included second-degree assault, fourth-degree burglary, violation of a protective order, reckless endangerment, failure to return a rented vehicle, and fleeing and eluding police.

Murray had a long history of dodging officers with the Anne Arundel County Sheriff's Office.

A March 11 incident saw Murray get away from police by driving on a bike trail and later on opposing traffic lanes on Forest Drive.

The department said investigators worked several angles to ensure they would be able to apprehend him during the Friday operation. Officers visited areas where Murray frequented, questioned his associates, and relied on drone surveillance tactics.

On the day of the operation, authorities zeroed in on Murray while he was doing yard work. He was arrested after a brief foot chase.

Anne Arundel County Sheriff Everett Sesker said the effort put into the operation by officers "is a direct result of their dedication and persistence, because you can only run for so long."

The operation was carried out in coordination with the Annapolis Police Department.

Murray is being held at the Central Holding and Processing Center.
