Protect Mueller Protest Planned In Annapolis

A protest to protect special counsel Robert Mueller is planned Thursday in Annapolis, as well as other locations in Maryland.

ANNAPOLIS, MD — Protestors who want to support the investigation by Special Counsel Robert S. Mueller in the wake of Attorney General Jeff Sessions' departure are planning to gather in Annapolis Thursday Nov. 8. The event is dubbed "Nobody Is Above the Law—Mueller Protection Rapid Response."

The Annapolis protest starts at 5 p.m. at Lawyer's Mall, the event page says. Similar protests are planned in Baltimore, Bel Air, Catonsville, Columbia, Cumberland, Frederick, Rockville, Salisbury, Silver Spring, and Towson.

"This is a peaceful event – but we WILL be heard! Because NOBODY IS ABOVE THE LAW," the Facebook event page says. The event is organized by BuxMont Inclusive and Progressive.
The protest comes a day after Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced he is leaving the administration at the request of President Donald Trump.

"Donald Trump just crossed a red line, violating the independence of the investigation pursuing criminal charges in the Trump-Russia scandal and cover-up," event organizers wrote. "Trump putting himself above the law is a threat to our democracy, and we’ve got to get Congress to stop him. We're mobilizing immediately to demand accountability, because Trump is not above the law."

Sessions, a Trump ally who threw his weight behind the president in the 2016 election, recused himself in March 2017 from the probe investigating Russian interference in the presidential election and possible collusion by members of the Trump campaign. Sessions' deputy attorney general, Rod Rosenstein, appointed Special Counsel Robert S. Mueller to oversee the probe in May 2017 after Trump fired then-FBI director James Comey.
