Racially Charged Post on School Website Spurs Police Investigation

Authorities are asking the public to help identify who posted song lyrics and other language on the county's "Blackboard" school site.

Racially charged song lyrics and other offensive items were posted on the county school system’s “Blackboard” website used by students and parents, authorities say.

Police are vowing to find whoever posted on the site Aug. 25, when the Anne Arundel County Board of Education received a complaint of an inappropriate post on the site.

Blackboard is a county-wide website where students and parents log on to check homework and other school-related events. Someone police are trying to track down posted lyrics from a racially charged song, authorities say, as well as other offensive language.

“One of the greatest aspects of Anne Arundel County is our diversity and the positive relationships that we share within our communities. It is unacceptable to every right-thinking member of our community that an individual would attempt to undermine those relationships,” said Police Chief Timothy Altomare in a statement. “I find the sentiments in the post disgusting and appalling. We will continue do everything within our power to identify those responsible.”

Police ask anyone with information about the incident to contact Detective Scott Seegers of the Digital Forensics Lab at (410) 222-3409 or (443) 336-7350.
