“Reimagining City Dock” Guest Joe Riley To Speak May 20
Former Charleston Mayor Joe Riley will be the guest speaker for "Reimagining City Dock." Riley is credited with revitalizing Charleston.
ANNAPOLIS, MD – Former Charleston Mayor Joe Riley will be speaking at Maryland Hall in Annapolis as part of the series “Reimagining City Dock.” Riley will be discussing “Visionary Leadership, Transformation and Resilience” at the free event May 20 at 7 p.m.
The speaker series is being hosted by the City of Annapolis, Historic Annapolis and Maryland Hall. Annapolis Mayor Gavin Buckley unveiled the speaker series during a public gathering held earlier this month to discuss the future of City Dock.
Riley served as Charleston’s mayor for 40 years from 1975 to 2016. The innovator helped convert Charleston from a “decaying urban center” in the 1970s and 1980s into a notable cultural designation by the time he left office in 2016. In fact, King Street, the main street running through the heart of downtown Charleston, was developed into one of the best shopping streets in America.

“I think that Joe will have important things to share with Annapolis. We can learn a lot from his leadership,” Buckley said in a statement.
While the event is free, tickets are required and can be obtained through the Maryland Hall website. A special reception will be held from 6 to 7 p.m.; tickets cost $50.
