Self-Service Emissions Tests Now Available in Annapolis
Drivers can do their own emissions tests at nine Motor Vehicle Administration locations statewide—and Annapolis is among them.

ANNAPOLIS, MD – Drivers who need to get their emissions tested can now do it themselves in Annapolis, with the addition of a self-service kiosk at the Annapolis Vehicle Emission Inspection Program (VEIP) site.
The kiosk on Defense Highway is one of seven being added to MVA locations statewide after Glen Burnie and Gaithersburg piloted the self-service devices in August 2015, according to a statement from the MVA.
“These popular kiosks provide customers a quick and easy way to complete their vehicle’s emissions test," MVA Administrator Christine Nizer said in a statement. “The governor challenged us to make our services more convenient and less expensive, and we’ve delivered with the expansion of the self-service VEIP kiosks.”

Testing done by a technician at full-service locations costs $14.
With the self-service kiosks, the cost is $10. To do it, drivers plug the testing device into their vehicles, follow instructions provided on the kiosk display, and the device feeds the data into the computer. See a demonstration.

The emissions test is required every two years to ensure vehicle engines are working properly and meet the clean air standards set by the Maryland Department of the Environment.
Vehicles that are past their inspection dates have to go to a full-service VEIP location for testing, MVA officials say.
