CROWNSVILLE, MD — The waters are currently unsafe for swimming at one Crownsville beach, the Anne Arundel County Department of Health says. The agency issued a no-contact advisory for the Herald Harbor Community Beach on Wednesday afternoon.

A routine water test showed that the Severn River beach had too much bacteria, according to the Environmental Protection Agency's standards. The Department of Health advises against swimming, kayaking, paddle boarding and touching the water until further notice.

Anybody who may have touched the water should take a warm, soapy shower. Swimmers should also wash their clothes, the Department of Health recommends.

The last no-contact advisory came one Aug. 5 after Tropical Storm Isaias dumped buckets of rain on Anne Arundel County.

The Department of Health issues water quality warnings anytime it rains more than half of an inch. Isaias dropped nearly 6 inches of rain on some parts of the county. The downpour flushed overflowing sewage into Back Creek, Lake Ogleton, Black Walnut Creek and Oyster Creek in Annapolis.
