One Shot In Annapolis, West Street Reopens

Breaking: A shooting investigation had closed a portion of West Street in Annapolis, but the road reopened about 4 p.m. Friday, police say.

ANNAPOLIS, MD — A shooting investigation that had closed West Street in Annapolis continues, police officials said Friday afternoon, but the busy road reopened about 4 p.m.. Some media reports say the shooting took place at Moon's Barber Shop, 904 West St., while others say the victim was shot in a parking lot nearby, but authorities have not confirmed that.

The Annapolis Police Department said in a statement about 3:15 p.m. that a report of shots fired was made about 1:30 p.m. and one person was struck by gunfire. Officers found the victim suffering from at least one gunshot wound. Police said the shooting was not a random event.

The victim was taken to an area hospital for treatment. Police have not said exactly where the shooting happened, if they are seeking a suspect, identified the injured person, or outlined a motive for the attack.

West Street was closed for over two hours between Westgate Circle and Russell Street. A bystander who was at Carlson's Donuts and Thai Kitchen said on Twitter that a police helicopter was flying over the area looking for a suspect.

WBAL reported the 900 block of West Street wass closed because of a shooting in the parking lot of the Quick Mart at 900 West St. At least one person has been taken to a hospital, the TV station says.

ABC2 reports the shooting victim was rushed from the barber shop to the parking lot of Annapolis Middle School to be flown to Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore.

Police on Twitter had asked residents to avoid the area or use Spa Road to Smithville Street to Russell Street to bypass the closed area.

Authorities asked anyone with information about the shooting to contact detectives at 410-260-3439. You can also call Metro Crime Stoppers at 1-866-7LOCKUP and submit an anonymous tip. If your tip leads to an arrest or indictment you may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $2,000.
