Snow In Forecast Could Change Anne Arundel Schools Break

There is a chance of snow in the forecast next week, and Anne Arundel Schools officials warn that a snow day will change semester break.

ANNAPOLIS, MD — Students and parents counting on a day off from school next Wednesday to mark the semester break better pray for mild weather and no cancelations — and there is snow in the forecast. Superintendent George Arlotto on Friday reminded parents of all Anne Arundel County Public Schools students that the semester break for students – now scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 31 – could change if weather forces schools to close on either of the last two days of the second marking period.

All quarterly assessments must be given by the end of the marking period and before the semester break. If inclement weather forces schools to close either Jan. 29 or 30 – the last “A” day and “B” day of the high school schedule – the semester break will be shifted forward accordingly, Arlotto said.

Should inclement weather force a two-hour delay on either Monday or Tuesday, all schools will open two hours late and close at their normal time to accommodate assessments.

So far, the forecast by the National Weather Service calls for a chance of snow Monday night into Tuesday morning. The Capital Weather Gang calls it a "nuisance snow" that will add up to a dusting to an inch. If that's the case the biggest problem is likely that it will fall during the Tuesday morning commute, not that school will be canceled.
