ANNAPOLIS, MD — A man threatened to cut his roommate with a knife, which led to a 90-minute standoff with Annapolis Police on Sunday afternoon. Authorities say the assault and negotiations began at 3:45 p.m. in the 100 block of Brightwater Drive.
Officers had been called to a home in the area when a man reportedly threatened to cut another man with a knife. When officers arrived, they found that the suspect, William Flores Benitez, 24, of Annapolis, had locked himself inside a bedroom in the home.
Police say Flores Benitez initially refused to come out of the bedroom, but after about an hour and a half, officers from the Crisis Negotiation Team were able to persuade him to leave the room.
