State of Emergency as Blizzard Aims for Maryland
Gov. Larry Hogan urges Maryland residents to prepare for this major winter storm, which could dump two feet or more of snow across region.

ANNAPOLIS, MD — Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan has declared a state of emergency Thursday afternoon as state agencies and local governments prepare for a blizzard in Maryland.
The governor urged Marylanders to prepare for this major winter storm, which could dump up to two feet of snow. Wind gusts of up to 50 mph, sleet and freezing rain could result in downed trees, power outages and blocked roads.
Hogan said the state of emergency will go into effect at 7 a.m. Friday. Pointing to a forecast that predicts Maryland will see between two and three feet of snow, the governor says the State Highway Administration is already pre-treating roads with 2,700 pieces of equipment to respond to the storm.

Hogan asked residents be prepared and patient, and requested they stay off the roads if possible.
“The Maryland National Guard will also be on standby to handle any issue. We remind all Marylanders to be cautious and safe during the upcoming storm, and encourage everyone to get prepared now and stay off the roads once the snow begins,” Hogan said at a press conference.
