Steak 'n Shake to Open in Maryland By Fall

A Hanover man plans to open eight Steak 'n Shake restaurants across Maryland in the coming months.

A burger chain that has been a favorite of Midwestern diners for decades is about to expand into Maryland.

The state’s first Steak ‘n Shake will open in Millersville at the end of September, with seven more locations in the offing, reports CapitalGazette.com.

Khalil Ahmad of Hanover owns Subway and Taco Bell franchises in Maryland, and a friend recommended Steak ‘n Shake as a new franchise opportunity, he told the newspaper.

Ahmad said the Steak ‘n Shake at 8100 Veterans Highway will hire about 120 to 140 employees.

His plans call for Steak ‘n Shakes to also open at the BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport, Arundel Mills, Catonsville, Annapolis, Owings Mills, Bowie and Silver Spring.

The eight locations would create a total of about 4,000 jobs.

Steak 'n Shake was founded in Normal, IL, in 1934 on the concept of offering premium burgers and hand-dipped milk shakes. The restaurants offer breakfast and a kids’ menu.
