Student Fight Breaks Out At Phoenix Academy, 1 Taken To Hospital

An altercation between students at the Annapolis school led to the police intervening in order to help break it up.

ANNAPOLIS, MD — A fight broke out Wednesday between a male student and a female student at Phoenix Academy, an alternative education school. During the altercation, the female student sprayed pepper spray. Officials broke up the fight, but the male student went back to the lobby and began fighting with other students, which prompted the police to be called in. One student was taken into custody and another student went to the hospital for treatment.

Acting Principal Philip Elliott addressed the incident in a letter sent to parents that was shared by WJZ. He said that witnesses will be interviewed and in addition to any consequences the students face with the police, the school will "impose appropriate consequences in accordance with our Code of Student Conduct with regard to anyone found to be involved in this incident."

“I am disappointed at the actions of some of our students today, and I assure you we will continue to work with them to help them make better decisions. I ask you to talk with your child this evening, and to reinforce the reasons that they are in school and the behaviors that are expected of them in our building. I greatly appreciate your collaboration in this effort," the principal wrote in his letter.
