Teamwork makes for wonderful party

About 200 seniors attended the annual holiday senior luncheon at the Annapolis Senior Activity Center on Dec. 12. Put together by the City of Annapolis, the Annapolis Commission on Aging, and the Annapolis Senior Activity Center, the luncheon honored the senior citizens of Annapolis.

Wayne M. Taylor, chair of the Annapolis Commission on Aging, served as master of ceremonies, introducing City of Annapolis Mayor Gavin Buckley and Pamela Jordan, director of the Anne Arundel County Department of Aging and Disabilities, to the seniors. After the two welcomed the seniors, the food was blessed by Joseph Holland. Lunch was then served by City of Annapolis employees, Sam’s Club employees, members of Annapolis Seniors, Inc., members of the Annapolis Commission on Aging, and other volunteers.

Special thanks go to Deborah Proctor who solicited food donations from area businesses, the businesses who responded so generously, and the Annapolis Recreation and Parks employees who picked up the food. Thanks go to the volunteers from We Care & Friends, a nonprofit organization that serves the needs of Annapolis residents. We Care & Friends not only donated food, but also prepped most of the food that was donated.

Special thanks also go to the “Christmas Cow” from Chick-fil-A. The Christmas Cow tried to connect with all the seniors, giving each one a little something from Chick-fil-A. When Tim Amann of Pet Rock performed, the Christmas Cow was right there to add a little zest to the opening number.

As for Sam’s Club, its employees went above and beyond – both with donations and helping to serve the seniors.

In addition to the scrumptious food, the seniors enjoyed the music. Holiday favorites such as “Do You Hear What I Hear,” “Jingle Bell Rock,” “Silver Bells,” “Frosty the Snowman,” “White Christmas,” and many more Christmas songs made up the first part of Tim Amann’s program. The second part of the program consisted of songs like “Mrs. Brown You’ve Got a Lovely Daughter” and “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow.”

Replete with food and good fellowship, seniors lingered as volunteers and county Facilities Management personnel began cleanup. Eventually, though, the party was over, and it was time to go home.
