Teen Wielding A Sledgehammer Threatens To Kill Driver With A Gun
The teen suspect stole the teen driver's car, ran it into a wall, hit three parked vehicles, then took off on foot in Annapolis.
ANNAPOLIS, MD — A 17-year-old wielding a sledge hammer stole another 17-year-old male's vehicle after threatening to kill the teen driver with a gun. The incident occurred along Johnson Place Feb. 13 shortly before 2 a.m. The teen told police that he had driven to the area to meet a female. As soon as he stopped his vehicle, the other teen appeared with the sledge hammer and threatened to kill him.
The teen driver took off on foot and while fleeing, dropped his keys. The suspect snatched them up and drove off in the teen's car at a high rate of speed. An Annapolis officer spied the vehicle zooming down Spa Road and took off in pursuit to try and stop it. During the pursuit, the driver left the road and hit a wall in front of Bay Shore Landing Apartments, but managed to keep driving. He hit three parked vehicles at the apartment complex, then took off on foot but was apprehended by officers.
According to the Annapolis Police Department, the suspect has been identified as Edgar Ortega, 17. He has been charged as an adult with armed carjacking, armed robbery and 16 other criminal counts related to this incident.
