These Maryland Hospitals Honored For Patient Safety, Experience

MARYLAND — A total of nine Maryland hospitals were recognized by Healthgrades as excelling in at least one of two award categories. The 2019 awards recognized hospitals for patient safety and patient experience.

In a press release, Healthgrades said the awards “recognize the hospitals around the country that make patient safety a top priority and provide an outstanding patient experience.” Overall, 460 hospitals in the United States achieved the Healthgrades “Patient Safety Excellence Award” and 434 hospitals achieved the “Outstanding Patient Experience Award.”

In Maryland, seven hospitals achieved the patient safety award and two hospitals achieved the patient experience award.

Below are the Maryland hospitals that achieved the “Patient Safety Excellence Award”:

• Anne Arundel Medical Center, Annapolis
• Carroll Hospital Center, Westminster
• MedStar Good Samaritan Hospital, Baltimore
• UM Harford Memorial Hospital, Havre de Grace
• UM Upper Chesapeake Medical Center, Bel Air
• University of Maryland Shore Medical Center at Chestertown, Chestertown
• University of Maryland Shore Medical Center at Easton, Easton

And these Maryland hospitals achieved the “Outstanding Patient Experience Award”:

• The Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore
• University of Maryland St. Joseph Medical Center, Towson

Healthgrades says the hospitals that achieved the patient safety award are among the top 10 percent of all short-term acute hospitals that report patient safety data. By Healthgrades’ estimate, nearly 128,000 patient safety incidents could have been avoided if all hospitals performed similarly to the ones recognized for safety.
