Three Arrested in $90K Air-Conditioning Thefts Across County

Three Curtis Bay residents are charged with the theft of AC units throughout Anne Arundel County, police say.

LINTHICUM, MD — Three Curtis Bay residents face multiple theft charges after they reportedly admitted they stole air-conditioning units from sites across Anne Arundel County, authorities say.

Detectives from the Anne Arundel County Police Metal Theft Unit were conducting surveillance on suspects Tuesday in recent thefts of rooftop air-conditioning units throughout the county. Detectives continued their surveillance for several hours and followed the vehicle to the 800 block of Pinnacle Drive in Linthicum.

About half an hour later, detectives saw the vehicle leave, and it was stopped by patrol officers. Police reportedly found seven industrial-sized air-conditioning unit coils in the bed of the vehicle.

The AC units and damage is valued at more than $90,000.

Police arrested Charles Henry Young, 45; Kathryn Elizabeth Keely, 31; and Michael Daniel Hammer II, 37, all from the 600 block of Maude Avenue in Curtis Bay. All the suspects were charged with destruction over $1,000, theft over $10,000, second-degree burglary, fourth-degree burglary and trespassing.

While being questioned by detectives, the suspects reportedly confessed to other similar thefts in Anne Arundel County. Charges are pending for those cases.

Police say these suspects were also responsible for similar thefts in other jurisdictions.
