Tips Lead to Arrest in Latest Annapolis Homicide

An Annapolis man is in custody on murder charges for allegedly shooting a local man to death on Pleasant Street.

ANNAPOLIS, MD — An Annapolis man was arrested Thursday night on murder charges in the fatal shooting of a man that caused a brief lockdown at a nearby school earlier this week.

Annapolis Police arrested Antiwan Brown, 22, of Annapolis for the murder of Walter Bryan, 46, of Annapolis. Tips from the community led to Brown being quickly identified as the suspect in Monday's homicide. Brown is charged with first- and second-degree murder, first- and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, handgun on person, and use of a firearm in a felony or violent crime.

Bryan was found with a gunshot wound on a sidewalk in the unit block of Pleasant Street Monday afternoon suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to Anne Arundel Medical Center, where he died from his injuries.

The gunfire caused a brief lockdown of one nearby school, Mary Moss at J. Albert Adams Academy, 245 Clay St. After about 15 minutes the lockdown was lifted and all the students were sent home.

Brown was arrested in Baltimore with the help of the Baltimore Police Department.
