Traffic Alert: Lanes Closed on I-95 Overnight for Repairs

Paving work will close some lanes on Interstate 95 the next two nights. Drivers are urged to find another route.

Drivers should expect traffic delays – and find another route -- the next two nights as lanes are closed on Interstate 95 for paving work.

On Monday and Tuesday nights, Sept. 8 and 9, the Maryland State Highway Administration will shift the southbound I-95 deceleration lane to the right for the exit ramps to MD 198 (Sandy Spring Road), according to a news release. Drivers should expect double lane closures each night on southbound I-95 between MD 216 (Scaggsville Road) and MD 212 (Powder Mill Road). This work is part of the last segment of the ICC project.

Crews will close the right lane on southbound I-95 beginning at 8 p.m. both nights, followed by double lane closures at 11 p.m., between MD 216 and MD 212. In addition to shifting traffic, crews will also perform milling and paving operations. All lanes of traffic will reopen to motorists by 5 a.m. each morning.

The shift is necessary to accommodate the lanes being built as part of the project. The last section of the ICC between I-95 and US 1 is expected to open to traffic later this year, weather permitting. Drivers are encouraged to avoid the area and consider the Baltimore/Washington Parkway, US 1 or US 29 as alternate routes.

Drivers are reminded to reduce speeds and be attentive as they drive through the work zone. For more information about the project, call 1-866-462-0020, or visit the ICC project website at www.iccproject.com. For real-time traffic information, log onto www.md511.org.
