Trespassers Hop On Sailboat With Owner Aboard: Annapolis Police

Three men climbed onto a sailboat during the weekend's United States Sailboat Show and were caught after the owner notified security.

ANNAPOLIS, MD — With thousands of visitors ogling the newest and best in sailboats during the United States Sailboat Show in Annapolis, maybe it was inevitable that a few would wander where they're not supposed to be. Annapolis Police say three men climbed a fence after 2 p.m. Sunday and one of the men, Nicholas Lewis, 29, of Severna Park, boarded an occupied sailboat.

The boat's owner chased Lewis off of the boat and alerted security, which detained all three suspects and notified police. Two of the men — Samuel Jenkins and Rory Handlin — were charged with trespassing and released, the Capital-Gazette reports. Lewis was charged with fourth-degree burglary and trespassing. He was released by the District Court Commissioner on his own recognizance.

Vendors, vessels and visitors from around the globe attend the United States Sailboat Show, which wraps up Monday, Oct. 8. In the wake of the sailboat show, the United States Power Boat Show zips into town from Oct. 11 to Oct. 14.
