Two Anne Arundel County Recipes Are In The Governor's Cookout

More than 40 recipes were submitted for the governor's 12th annual Buy Local Cookout July 18. Two recipes come from Anne Arundel County.

ANNAPOLIS, MD — The 12th annual Governor's Buy Local Cookout features numerous Maryland farmer/chef teams, including two from Anne Arundel County this year. For the special event. Maryland Gov. Hogan invites chefs to create and submit original recipes to be used at the cookout.

The recipes and dishes prepared for the Buy Local Cookout focus on creative ways to use Maryland-grown or raised products and draw attention to the bounty of food accessible locally to Marylanders.

Monica Alverado with Bread and Butter Kitchen in Eastport will be using ground pork from En-Tice-Ment Farm Raised Meats in Harwood, and produce and herbs from Kent County to create her special dish called Banh Mi Bowl.

More than 40 recipes were submitted for the cookout and the finalists were chosen based upon several criteria including the maximum use of local ingredients, creativity and geographic representation, reported the Capital Gazette.
