Severn Man Suffers Life-Threatening Injuries After Car Catches Fire: Police

ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, MD — A 21-year-old Severn man remains hospitalized after a serious crash saw his car hit two guardrails before catching fire, police said.

Anne Arundel County Police said the incident took place Tuesday shortly after 10:30 p.m. at the intersection of Maryland Routes 100 and 10.

Early findings from the single-vehicle crash indicate the driver was traveling northbound on Route 100 when he lost control of his 2018 Audi sedan while using the on-ramp to merge onto Route 10.

Authorities said the driver hit a guardrail from the driver's side of the car, prompting the vehicle to spin out of control onto Route 100 and drive through a second guardrail on the opposite side of the road before striking a light pole.

The Severn man was later removed from the vehicle by bystanders as the car caught fire. He was taken to the hospital by first responders from the Anne Arundel County Fire Department.

Officials have not detailed the extent of the man's injuries, only describing them as life-threatening.

An investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
