'The Voice' Singers Draw Hundreds To Concert In Anne Arundel County
Two singers from "The Voice" performed this weekend in Anne Arundel County. Hundreds of fans attended the concert at a local restaurant.

SEVERNA PARK, MD — Two singers from "The Voice," including one from Maryland, and a guitarist performed for hundreds of fans this weekend in Anne Arundel County.
Parijita Bastola, a 17-year-old senior at Severna Park High School, sang duets Friday night with Kique Gomez, a 19-year-old from Miami. Bastola advanced as far as "The Voice's" semifinals, which included the competition's top eight artists. Gomez made it to the top 10.
Bastola and Gomez sang to guitar riffs from Tyler Zachry, a local musician who plays at bars in Anne Arundel County.

The concert was held at Sullivan's Cove, a restaurant in Bastola's hometown.
"I for real can't stop smiling while singing with Kique," Bastola said Tuesday on Facebook. "We had a great time at the show and Today we are recording songs together at the studio !!"

The artists performed hits like "Halo" by Beyoncé, "Tennessee Whiskey" by Chris Stapleton and "Shallow" by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper. Click on any of those song titles to see a video of that performance.
Sullivan's Cove was prepared for the large crowd, which overflowed into the parking lot. The restaurant opened its roll-up doors and set up picnic tables and fire pits so fans outside could see the concert.
Sullivan's Cove thanked its staff for a busy night of work and cheered the performers, who stayed up late rehearsing for two straight nights.
"You put a very special night together and you CRUSHED IT with a level of professionalism that we have not yet seen," Sullivan's Cove said on Facebook. "So many of you came up to us and said this is what Severna Park needs. Parijita, you brought our community together last night and it is so appreciated by so many. Thank you Parijita and Kique."
Gomez also spoke highly Bastola, saying how much her friendship means.
"If there is anyone in this world I could choose to sing with it 100% would be parijita," Gomez said on Instagram before the concert. "She has taught me so much about myself and is a constant reminder to push myself."
Though Bryce Leatherwood won season 22 of "The Voice," Bastola made plenty of noise during her run.
Bastola sang "Scars to Your Beautiful" by Alessia Cara in November. Cara messaged Bastola afterward to applaud her passionate cover and say her "voice is gorgeous."
Along with all the national attention, Bastola also garnered local praise.
Severna Park High School and Severna Park Middle School each posted messages of support on their digital marquees. The Anne Arundel County government gave Bastola a congratulatory citation. The Baltimore Ravens also wished Bastola luck during the competition.
Bastola was the first person in her family born in the United States. Her family moved to the U.S. after political unrest in their native Nepal. Bastola's father came over first.
Immigration made it impossible for Bastola's older sister to join them, however. Bastola could only communicate with her sister by writing letters. Bastola's sister introduced her to soul and R&B music, inspiring her powerful and emotional style.
School musicals and choirs eventually led Bastola to a blues band. She has spent the past five years playing at restaurants and bars. Bastola also recently performed at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, Tennessee.
The artist got her big break this September when she impressed "The Voice" judges during blind auditions.
In this phase of the show, contestants try out by singing a snippet of a song while the judges sit facing away from the performers. Judges, who also act as voice coaches, turn their chairs around if they want that singer on their team.
All four coaches turned around for Bastola as she sang "Jealous" by Labrinth. With her choice of coaches, Bastola decided to join Legend's team.
"The best Artists are able to bring the music of their culture and of their roots into the wider global landscape of music," Legend told Bastola after her audition. "I think your voice is that kind of transcendent voice."
