What's Open, Closed in Annapolis on Labor Day 2015? (ICYMI)

See what's open, or not, on Monday, Sept. 7. Events include a parade and First Sunday Art Show.

While many city and county services are closed or limited for the Labor Day holiday, there’s a parade planned and an art show to enjoy in Annapolis.

City of Annapolis government offices will be closed on Monday, Sept. 7, in observance of Labor Day.

Refuse and recycling collection:

  • If collection for refuse and recycling is on Monday, September 7, it will be collected on Tuesday, September 8.
  • If collection for refuse and recycling is on Tuesday, September 8, it will be collected on Wednesday, September 9.
  • There will be no collection of bulk items or yard waste onWednesday, September 9.

Recreation Centers, Pool

  • “Pip” Moyer Recreation Center: The facility will be closed on Monday, Sept. 7, for the Labor Day holiday. However, the center will be open regular hours on Saturday and Sunday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Stanton Community Center: The facility will be closed on Monday for the holiday.
  • Truxtun Park Pool: Will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 7, the last day the pool is open for the season with the exception of the annual dog swim on Wednesday, Sept. 9.

Labor Day Parade

During the Labor Day weekend on Sunday, Sept. 6, at 3 p.m., the local Elks Club will host the Annual Pre-Labor Day Elks Parade. It begins at Amos Garrett Boulevard and heads down West Street to Calvert Street. There will be a small reviewing booth on Calvert Street. The parade is expected to last until 5 p.m. and the street will be closed to traffic.

Arts Festival Open

Meanwhile, First Sunday Arts Festival is also being held on West and Calvert Streets on Sunday September 6th beginning at 11 a.m. The streets and parks on West and Calvert Streets will be filled with artists and music. West Street, from Church Circle to Calvert Street, will be closed until the event concludes at 5 p.m. For more information, go towww.firstsundayarts.com.

Anne Arundel County Services

  • All county offices are closed
  • Landfill and Convenience centers are closed
  • There will be no curbside collection. Monday collections will occur Tuesday. Tuesday collections will occur Wednesday
  • Anne Arundel County libraries will be closed
  • Senior Centers will be closed
  • Regional Parks will remain open
  • Anne Arundel County Public Schools and central offices will be closed Monday.

Weather Forecast

An early look ahead at the holiday, which brings a three-day weekend for many folks, looks perfect for getting outside. Saturday and Sunday are expected to be mostly sunny, with highs in the low 80s, according to the National Weather Service.
