Who Makes Maryland's Best Crab Cakes?
Which restaurant makes the best crab cakes in Maryland? You be the judge at a challenge on Sept. 12 in Glen Burnie to decide.

GLEN BURNIE, MD — There may be no more coveted title in Maryland than Top Crab Cake. The fifth annual Maryland's Top Crab Cake Challenge will be held Wednesday, Sept. 12, to determine with local restaurant or caterer wins the bragging rights and trophy. And you can judge the mouth-watering contest.
Organizers say those attending the event will sample the crab cakes, cream of crab soup and Maryland crab soup and vote for their favorites. The winners will be announced at a Maryland Business Connectionnetworking reception after the event and on social media.
The crab cake challenge will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. at Michael's Eighth Avenue in Glen Burnie. Several local breweries and wineries will serve samples of their beer and wine.

When Patch asked readers where to find the best crab cakes in the state earlier this year, nearly 2,000 of you had some strong feelings about the best around. Lots of spots, from Abingdon to Edgewater, from western Maryland to the Eastern Shore, got some love.
There was a tie between Pappas and Box Hill Pizzeria, which claimed the top spots in our readers' minds and bellies.
Which restaurant serves up the most delicious crab cakes in Maryland? Tell us in comments.
The word used by most to describe Pappas crab cakes was "perfect," attributed to the meat and composition. "Pure chunks of crabmeat in a moist cake," one reader said of Pappas crabcakes. "They are perfectly cooked."
Patch readers are in good company. Oprah put Pappas crabcakes on her list of "favorite things" in 2015. "These perfectly seasoned Maryland crab cakes have more fresh, sweet lump crabmeat than I've ever seen in a cake," Oprah said at the time. "The blend of ingredients comes from a 45-year-old family recipe."
Perfection was also on the tongues of diners whose crabcake go-to is Box Hill Pizzeria in Abingdon. "Spices are perfect," one reader wrote of the Box Hill Pizzeria recipe, which complements the crab without overpowering it.
