Widow Of Slain Capital Gazette Reporter Finishes His Legacy
Andrea Chamblee vowed to finish her husband's unpublished book after he was gunned down at the Capital Gazette office.

ANNAPOLIS, MD — After losing her husband in the Capital Gazette mass shooting, Andrea Chamblee was not about to let John McNamara's hard work gather cobwebs. Undeterred, Chamblee decided to take the unpublished book her husband had dedicated himself to writing and finish it herself.
In June 2018, John McNamara, Wendi Winters, Rob Hiaasen, Gerald Fischman and Rebecca Smith were shot and killed after accused shooter Jarrod Ramos opened fire inside the Annapolis newspaper's office. McNamara, a sports reporter, had dedicated 13 years compiling a book about the history of high school basketball in the D.C. area. Called "The Capital of Basketball," McNamara had piles of research completed, but after his death, it sat there forlornly in his office.
Chamblee admitted it took her months to muster up the strength to enter her husband's home office and that's when she found his hard work abandoned. There was no way she was going to let it go unpublished. She summoned the help of others in identifying people pictured in photos and finally, the book was ready to be published.
