Winter Training - Annapolis Junior Rowing
Train and to Learn To Row at High School Level
Rowing (Crew) is a great scholastic sport shared by more than 100 men and women each year in Anne Arundel County. Annapolis Junior Rowing brings together athletes from the county's area public and private schools (grades 8 through 12) to learn to row and compete with other crews from around the country.
Each winter, the program opens to new interested athletes who want to learn to row and join existing rowers from AJR. Personalized instruction on the Rowing Ergometer (Erg) along with team-based body circuits, weights and video instruction form a base that allows immediate progress when rowers hit the South River in early March to begin Spring rowing and competition.
Interested parents can now Sign Up for Winter Training which begins December 8th:

- Organized workouts will take place at the YMCA in Arnold (Ritchie Hwy) Mon - Fri (4 - 6pm) and Saturday (8 - 10am).
- Workouts will be coached and organized in several segments: ergometer joint classes; body circuits, weights and cross-training where athletes will move through 2 or 3 of those segments on each visit.
- Education: we will utilize meeting space at the Y to review rowing videos on technique, discussions of Nutrition and other “how to” presentations to get everyone ready for Spring Rowing. This includes racing strategy, Coxswain instruction, rigging and other instruction to provide our team with a more complete picture of this sport.
- We have a Full Time membership (available for all workout sessions) and a Part Time membership, which includes two days a week.
Every year, our graduating Seniors make their way into collegiate rowing programs from around the country, either by Title IX scholarship or sponsored applications from collegiate coaches. If you ever thought whether your son or daughter might benefit from this ultimate team sport (and the oldest continuous collegiate sport in the country) then now is the time to check out Annapolis Junior Rowing!
