WNAV Radio Repeats as AP’s “Outstanding News Operation” Award
Chesapeake AP Broadcaster Awards

(Ocean City, MD) The Chesapeake Associated Press Broadcasters Association announces the winners of
annual awards in a ceremony during their convention held in Ocean City, Maryland.
The Chesapeake Region consists of Radio and TV stations in Maryland, Delaware and the District of Columbia.

The News and Sports Department of Annapolis radio station WNAV took home honors in four categories.
The station received the highest award for “Outstanding News Operation of the Year” for the Non Metro

Region for the second year in a row. The WNAV News Department is led by News Director, Jane Schlegel.
Judges commented that “Sound used painted a great picture for the listener. Clearly Local News is crucial to the
team. The variety seems to be well spread”.
In addition to the prestigious “Outstanding News Operation of the Year”, WNAV’s Donna Cole won the award
for “Outstanding Public Affairs” for the station’s weekly public affairs program, The 1430 Connection.
WNAV News Anchor/Reporter, Emil Gallina, won the award for the station in the Multimedia/On line Journalism,
Radio category, and the Outstanding Year-Round Local Sports honor was given for Local Sports Coverage by
Wiley Baker.
“We are very pleased to have received four awards again this year from the Chesapeake Associated Press
Broadcasters Association,” said Steve Hopp, WNAV V.P. and General Manager. “We are extremely proud of the
entire team in our News and Sports Department. It’s wonderful to have their hard work acknowledged.”
