Woman Orders Burglar to Leave; He Hands Over Loot

An Annapolis woman who awoke in the middle of the night to find a thief in her living room told him to leave, and he gave back his haul.

ANNAPOLIS, MD — When an Annapolis woman awoke early Sunday to find a burglar standing in her living room, she demanded that he leave her house.

Not only did he comply, he gave back the items he was planning to steal, according to Annapolis Police.

Officers who responded to the 911 call found Ryan Simms, 32, of Annapolis walking in the area of Heritage Court, where the burglary was reported just before 3 a.m. Police say he matched the description of the burglar given by the victim. Simms was identified as the suspect and arrested for the burglary.

There were no signs of forced entry to the home.

Simms was wanted on four open warrants that were also served. Police say he was wanted for a burglary in the 1100 block of Madison Street, a home break-in in the 900 block of Central Street, and two warrants were for failing to appear in court for burglary charges.

Simms is being held at the Jennifer Road Detention Center.
