A former California woman found dead on an Annapolis hiking trail may have fallen and died from exposure to the extreme cold, police said.
ANNAPOLIS, MD — A woman found dead on an Annapolis hiking trail has been identified as a former California resident who died from exposure to extreme cold temperatures, Annapolis police said Monday.
The victim is Portia Latrice Jones, 44, who came to Annapolis from the West Coast. Police said most residents knew Jones from seeing her while walking around town.
Jones' body was discovered about 2:36 p.m. Jan. 28 near the tennis courts at Truxtun Park after police received a report of an unresponsive female. Investigators believe Jones may have slipped due to the icy conditions and died in the cold.
