YouTube Star Caleb Logan Bratayley Died from Heart Defect

Caleb was suffering a medical emergency when first responders arrived at his Anne Arundel County home Oct. 1


Caleb Logan Bratayley, 13, of the popular YouTube channel “Bratayley,” died last month from an undetected heart condition, his mother said on Tuesday.

His mother, Katie, posted on Instagram (see above) that Caleb died from an undiagnosed heart condition. Doctors said he had shown no signs of the malady, and there was nothing his family could have done.

After learning of the heart condition, Caleb’s sisters were checked for the defect, bu are fine, their mother said.

Caleb’s mother wrote: “The doctor confirmed today that Caleb passed away from a heart condition called Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy that went undetected in his yearly checkups. Caleb didn’t have any symptoms so the doctor said there was nothing we could have done differently. … The sadness of losing someone you love is unimaginable. Thank you to everyone who has reached out, your kindness and support continues to help our family. We miss our baked potato every day.”

The “Bratayley” YouTube channel has more than 1.6 million subscribers.

Police called to the family’s Severna Park home on Oct. 1 found Caleb suffering from a medical emergency. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

“This has come as a shock to all of us,” his mother wrote last month after Caleb’s death. “Words cannot describe how much we will miss him. His incredibly funny, loving and wonderful spirit made us all fall in love with him as a YouTuber, friend, brother and son.”
