$163M Operating Budget For Anne Arundel County Allows For Growth
The Anne Arundel County education board's operating budget exceeds County Executive Pittman's proposal by $9.6M but funds school projects.
ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, MD — The Anne Arundel County board of education approved a fiscal year 2021 capital budget of $163 million, which is $9.6 million more than what was proposed by Anne Arundel County Executive Steuart Pittman May 1. The plan was adopted at the board's June 17 meeting and includes $2.5 million added by the County Council for the design of a new West County Elementary School.
The budget also includes $94.3 million in study, design and/or construction funding for eight other major school projects: Edgewater Elementary ($5.6 million); Tyler Heights Elementary ($4.8 million); Richard Henry Lee Elementary ($4.4 million); Quarterfield Elementary ($15.4 million); Hillsmere Elementary ($12.2 million); Rippling Woods Elementary ($16.9 million); Old Mill West High School ($32.0 million); and Old Mill Middle School South ($3.0 million).
The capital budget also designates $5.5 million for an all-day kindergarten and prekindergarten addition at Sunset and Van Bokkelen elementary schools, $8.2 million for an addition at Arundel Middle School and $6.6 million for athletic stadium improvements.
