ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, MD — First responders were called over the weekend to two separate incidents that involved child drownings.
The first of the two cases involved a young boy who drowned Saturday in a pool at a Brooklyn Park home, the Anne Arundel County Fire Department said in a release.
A spokesperson with the Anne Arundel County Police Department told The Banner that the 2-year-old child was pronounced dead at a hospital. The incident occurred at the 400 block of Townsend Avenue.
The second drowning involved another young boy in Pasadena took place Sunday.
The Pasadena case was traced to a home on the 800 block of 223rd Street, AACFD officials told local station WMAR2 News. The boy was found unresponsive in a private swimming pool.
In light of both cases, the AACFD is highlighting the importance of installing safety guards near residential pools and enrolling children in swimming lessons. "Keep a life ring, reach pole, and first aid kit on the pool deck," officials said in a release.
