Anne Arundel County Officials Want To Expand Quiet Waters Park

Anne Arundel County officials are eyeing 19 acres on the south end of the park that would offer more water access and trails.

ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, MD -- Quiet Waters Park nestled between the South River and Harness Creek offers county residents trails that wind through forests and grassy fields, a children's playground and a total of 340 acres to roam. An initiative launched by county officials will offer even more amenities to county residents at the park.

The county hopes to buy 19 acres of land that would expand the park and offer additional water access options for park users. The county is actively procuring private donations along with state and federal funding. The purchase price is estimated at $8 million with the county's share pegged at $3 million, reports The Morning Call.

The 19 acres are located on the south side of Quiet Waters Park near Loden Pond. County officials have said they plan to use program open space funding to cover $2.8 million and an additional $350,000 will come from the county general fund. The Morning Call reported that the county is applying for a $2 million grant from the state and $1 million from the federal government. A private donor has stepped forward to contribute $2 million that will be administered by the Chesapeake Conservancy.
