ANNAPOLIS, MD — Columbus Day is that relatively odd holiday during which some traditional closings are the norm — unless they're not.

Here's a brief rundown of what's open and what's not Monday, Oct. 8, in Anne Arundel County:

Government Offices

It's a federal holiday, so federal and state government offices will be closed. County offices and city of Annapolis offices are open. However, certain offices are closed, like the Anne Arundel County Board of Elections.

Schools

Oct. 8 is a normal school day for Anne Arundel County Public Schools.

Garbage Collection

There is no change in the normal trash pickup schedule.

Post Offices

The day is a holiday for postal workers, so don't expect mail delivery and your local post office is closed.

Banks

Most banks are closed for Columbus Day, with a few exceptions, including Wells Fargo and TD Bank.

Grocery and Retail Stores

Major grocery store chains will operate normal hours on Monday, as will retailers like Target and Walmart.
