Crash on Magothy Bridge Road Involves UPS Truck

Two people were injured, one seriously, in a three-car crash in Pasadena on Thursday afternoon, according to Anne Arundel County Police.

A Pasadena man was transported via helicopter to Maryland Shock Trauma in Baltimore where he is in serious but stable condition, according to a police press release.

Police responded to the area of Route 100 east and Magothy Bridge Road at 4:09 p.m. Thursday for the report of a three-car collision. They reportedly saw a silver Chrysler 300, a blue Toyota Highlander and a brown UPS delivery truck in the intersection with heavy damage.

Police said a preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of Toyota Highlander was traveling east on Route 100 and approaching the intersection with Magothy Beach Road. The driver reportedly had the green light and the right of way to proceed.

According to the press release, the driver of the Chrysler was traveling west on Route 100 and was stopped at a red light in the left turn lane from Route 100 west onto Magothy Bridge Road south. The driver of the Chrysler reportedly turned left against the red light and traveled across the lanes of eastbound Route 100, failing to yield the right away to traffic.

Police said the Highlander struck the Chrysler in the passenger side as the Chrysler passed in front of the vehicle. After the impact, both vehicles traveled onto Magothy Beach Road and the Chrysler traveled into the northbound lanes of Magothy Beach Road, where it struck the UPS truck, which was stopped at the intersection at a red light.

The driver of the UPS truck suffered minor injuries and was transported via ambulance to Baltimore Washington Medical Center in Glen Burnie, police said. The driver of the Chrysler, from Crownsville, did not suffer any injuries, according to the press release.

Police said preliminary investigations reveal that driver error appears to be a contributing factor in the crash, but there are no indications at this time that excessive speed or alcohol contributed to this crash. The investigation is ongoing.
