Crownsville Man Charged with Murder in Stabbing

The stabbing at Beech Grove Farm prompted three Crofton schools to briefly go on lockdown. Police say there is no danger to the community.

A Crownsville man has been charged with murder in Friday’s fatal stabbing of a friend, which briefly prompted three Crofton schools to go on lockdown.

Anne Arundel County Police officers were called to a stabbing at 1575 Underwood Road in Crofton about 9:40 a.m. Friday. The victim and a resident in the house, Adam Ussery, 25, suffered an apparent stab wound to the upper body. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators say the murder suspect, Jason Thayer, 34, of 1682 Crownsville Road in Crownsville, and two other people arrived at Ussery’s house about 9:25 a.m. Friday. The two other people argued with someone at the house.

Ussery was reportedly confronted by Thayer, the two argued, fought, and Ussery was struck in the face. He went into his house and came out holding a knife, police say. Thayer pulled out a knife and after a brief argument Thayer stabbed Ussery. The victim walked back into the house, where someone called 911.

Thayer and the two individuals that he came to the home with then left in a gold Toyota Camry, which was found near Crownsville Road near Interstate 97. Authorities found Thayer nearby.

After multiple interviews, charges were filed against Thayer, while the other two people were released without charges.

Police say all of the people involved in Friday’s altercation knew one another and there is no ongoing community threat.

Thayer is charged with first- and second-degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon, and first- and second-degree assault.

Crofton Middle School, Crofton Elementary School, and Crofton Meadows Elementary School were on lockdown about an hour Friday morning after reports of the stabbing. The precautionary lockdown ended about 10 a.m., according to the AACPS Twitter feed.

Anne Arundel County Public Schools says on its website that all students and employees were safe, and no incident took place on any of the school campuses. During the lockdown, no one was allowed in or out of the school buildings.

Ussery lived at Beech Grove Farm, which offers boarding for horses and other equestrian services, according to the Capital-Gazette.
