Elderly Woman Dies After Wandering Onto Road
Anne Arundel County Police say the woman walked onto a dark road in Severna Park early Thursday and was hit by a car.
An elderly Severna Park woman died early Thursday while trying to cross a dark street without a crosswalk, according to Anne Arundel County Police.
About 5 a.m. police were called to the accident scene on Ritchie Highway at Cypress Cove Road.
The preliminary investigation shows the elderly pedestrian left her residence, entered the dark roadway and was struck by a northbound 2011 Honda Civic driven by Stephen Alt, 29, of Denton.

The victim -- Catherine Kearney, 86, of Severna Park -- died from her injuries.
There are no pedestrian control devices or streetlights at the accident location, police say.

The roadway was closed for about two and a half hours during the investigation.
Speed does not appear to be a factor in the crash, authorities said.
