High Schoolers Show Pasadena Students How To Cope With Stress

A new initiative led by high schoolers with Anne Arundel County Public Schools helps middle schoolers learn how to hand stress.

PASADENA, MD — Middle schoolers are reaping the benefits of having high schoolers mentor them and lead an innovative wellness workshop thanks to an initiative recently launched at George Fox Middle School in Pasadena. The wellness program aims to help students tread the rough waters of middle school and focused on vaping, social media and social pressures.

"I think the social media interested me most because most teens are on it," Tully Fenner, a middle school student, told WBAL.

Select high school students belonging to a group called Chesapeake Regional Association of Student Councils, or CRASC, spearheaded the program.

"A lot of times, when we talk about social media, safety, parents don't know how to use Snapchat, Instagram and things of that matter and TikTok, as well. Us, as students, we can give an insight," said Conor Curran, president of CRASC.

To cope with stress, they were shown how to engage in yoga. They stayed off their cell phones and computers, and designed vision boards instead. The middle schoolers weren't the only ones to benefit.

"Seeing people that are like them but maybe a few years older, sometimes is easier to connect to than an adult kind of saying the same things again and again," said Rida Alvi, a member of the Anne Arundel County Board of Education.
