Jessup Prison Fire: One Hospitalized, Officials Say

BREAKING: Four people were evaluated after fire broke out in a cell at the Maryland Correctional Institute for Women Sunday, officials said.

JESSUP, MD — Officials said one person was hospitalized following a fire Sunday at a Jessup prison. The victim's injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.

Crews were dispatched to the Maryland Correctional Institute for Women at 8:39 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 23. Fire had broken out in a cell at the facility in the 7900 block of Brock Bridge Road, according to authorities.

Three people were evaluated, and one person was taken to the University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center for treatment, the Anne Arundel County Fire Department reported.

Four correctional officers were medically assessed, according to Fox 45, which said none of the inmates was injured.

By 10 p.m., crews reported they were completing the process of smoke removal.

The Office of the State Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the blaze.
