Lake Shore Fire Station Opens

The county held a grand opening July 31 for a new fire station on Mountain Road in Pasadena.

PASADENA, MD — A formal grand opening ceremony was held Tuesday for the new Lake Shore Fire Station at 4642 Mountain Road, Pasadena. County Executive Steve Schuh, Anne Arundel County Fire Chief Allan Graves and Lake Shore Volunteer Fire Company Chief Tim Hall spoke at the ceremony.

The new 13,000-square-foot, $6 million station is on the site of the old Pasadena Hardware, near Maryland Avenue and Forest Drive, next to Galilee Lutheran Church. Firefighters began moving in and operating from the new home of the Lake Shore Volunteer Fire Company on Sunday afternoon.

“Over the last three and a half years, Anne Arundel County has undertaken a major effort to address our public safety infrastructure,” said Schuh. “This new volunteer fire station is a bricks and mortar example of our unwavering commitment to public safety.”

This new station sits on about 3.5 acres and is just over 12,000 square feet. It replaces a fire station that was built in the 1940s. The new station incorporates “green” site and design features including solar technology, Energy Star appliances, landscaping and irrigation efficiency strategies, low emission appliances, stormwater control and is LEED Silver certified.

The station includes a commercial kitchen, physical training room, exhaust removal system, drive-through engine bays, offices for volunteer personnel, duty officer and crew and a workspace for the county police.

Please be mindful of emergency vehicles responding from this new location, the fire department says.

Schuh said the new fire station is a concrete example of his administration's investments in public safety investments which include:

  • Improving public-safety infrastructure, including the development of a new police academy that broke ground in December, the newcentral booking facility that broke ground in March, and three additional fire stations.
  • Increasing the number of public-safety personnel by more than 120 to combat gangs and improve response times.
  • Accelerating the purchases of new police vehicles to bring the average age of our fleet down to 3 years.

This year’s budget calls for the installation of a new water supply tank in South County, as well as EMS substations in Mayo and in Heritage Harbour to ensure better, more efficient response times. The operating budget included funding for 10 new firefighters, a down payment on Schuh’s goal of staffing the department to 970.
