Lightning Strikes Curtis Bay Home, Fire Displaces 4: Officials

Lightning struck a Curtis Bay home during Wednesday's storm, officials said. The ensuing fire displaced four residents, authorities added.

CURTIS BAY, MD — Officials said lightning struck a Curtis Bay home during Wednesday evening's thunderstorm. The bolt caused a fire that displaced two children and a pair of adults, an incident report noted. The affected residents will stay with family, the press release clarified.

The fire department added a 15-year-old noticed smoke coming from the basement and heard the alarms sounding. Crews explained they arrived at the two-story end townhome around 6:17 p.m. and found the occupants and pets had already escaped.

First responders announced they controlled the lower-level blaze within 15 minutes. The team of 35 firefighters stayed on site in the 1300 block Creekland Court for nearly two hours, the write-up informed.

The Anne Arundel County Fire Department did not report any injuries. Investigators did not estimate the dollar loss caused by the flames.
