Man to Spend 45 Years in Prison for Rape, Abuse of Girl

John Michael Winner will also have to register as a sex offender if he ever leaves prison, authorities said.

A 39-year-old man was sentenced to spend 45 years in prison for raping a teenage girl in Crofton, and he will also have to register as a sex offender should he ever leave prison.

John Michael Winner was sentenced by a judge Wednesday, Anne Arundel County state’s attorney Anne Colt Leitess said. Winner abused the girl at two Crofton homes from the time she was 14 in the spring of 2010 to December 2012, when she finally reported the abuse, reports WBAL TV.

The victim told police Winner groped her on two occasions and raped her during four other incidents.

Winner was found guilty by a jury of sex abuse of a minor and four counts of second-degree forcible rape.

“Mr. Winner preyed upon this girl, taking her innocence when she was just entering her teenage years. This sentence ensures he will be behind bars for decades and will prevent him from victimizing other children in the future,” Leitess said in WBAL’s story.
