Pasadena Area Creek Closed By Sewage Spill: Alert

A portion of Wharf Creek near Cheseapeake High School is closed after a sewage overflow, county health officials said.

PASADENA, MD — Residents are being warned not to swim or otherwise go into Wharf Creek , a tributary of Bodkin Creek in Pasadena. The Anne Arundel County Department of Health issued the advisory Monday afternoon and ordered an emergency closure of the waterway because of a sewage overflow.

Health authorities estimated between 18,000 and 24,000 gallons of sewage escaped from the inflow pipe leading to the holding tank at the Chesapeake High School Complex over the weekend. The closing will remain in effect until Monday, April 1, according to a news release.

The Department of Health posted warning signs along the creek. People coming in contact with the affected water should immediately wash well with soap and warm water. Contaminated clothing should also be washed.
